Sonja Gashus

Founder & Principal Lawyer

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sonja Gashus is the founder and principal lawyer of Gashus Law. Her practice focuses on corporate and commercial law and private M&A, including the purchase and sale of businesses, corporate formation and structuring, shareholder agreements, and commercial contracts. Sonja advises business owners, entrepreneurs, and individuals across Ontario on the practical legal questions that arise in operating a business, as well as the significant transactions that shape its future.

Sonja’s approach to legal practice is grounded in her background in business. Her undergraduate studies in finance provided a strong understanding of the financial and strategic considerations behind every transaction, and that perspective continues to inform the way she advises her clients.

Sonja is passionate about the future of the profession. She maintains a keen interest in how emerging technologies will shape the practice of law, having completed the Generative AI for the Legal Profession program at UC Berkeley Law, and is committed to improving the practice of law for the individuals and businesses she serves.

Sonja graduated from the Rowe School of Business at Dalhousie University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in finance. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2022 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2023. She developed a strong technical foundation across a broad range of corporate and commercial matters at both boutique and full-service firms before founding Gashus Law.

In her spare time, Sonja enjoys travelling, cooking, and spending time with her Bernese Mountain Dog.
